A Note from Heaven . . . the Beauty of Caring

Writer's picture: Chris GrossChris Gross

In my daily meditation I listen for the divine . . . Last night there was another shooting in Toronto. This morning this is what I heard . . .

I know you are worried, sad, upset this morning. Think of Mr Rogers - look for the helpers. When things are scary, look for the helpers, that's what Mr Rogers was told by his mother when he was a little child. People helping, people caring, strangers reaching out; first responders rushing in, doing their jobs, caring, reaching out; everywhere people caring, reaching out, offering support, doing what they can, drawing together. This is what to see and to look for, in the midst of chaos, stark beauty, not traditional "beauty", but the beauty of people caring, reaching out between each other, being the best they can be to each other when the worst that can be imagined has unfolded and happened.

Beauty. Care. Inside and out, within you and around you. Look for it everywhere you go, feel it, see it, touch it, sense it. Let it be the heartbeat of your life. In the midst of the terror, and the busyness, and the ugliness and pain and disruption of life, look for the spots of beauty and caring in your life. Don't be Pollyanna, but look for beauty, caring, see where you can see it, see beneath the surface, and look for the signs of hope and beauty and care. These may seem small, but these are beautiful, and these can give us hope, and they can draw us on.
